Typing speed

I used to be such a fast typist. From memory, in uni I could top 80 wpm.

I seem to be slowing down, or at least, my accuracy has dropped. I’m not sure if it’s due to

a. getting old

b. the crap keyboard I have at work, which periodically seems to ignore what I press, and has annoyingly unclacky(*) keys

c. lack of practice because I never use ICQ/IRC/any other chat thing anymore

Or all three.

But actually it may be my imagination: I just tried an online typing test and reports I’m still up at 73 wpm (net). So maybe it’s not so bad after all.

Actually it’s probably just (b). Maybe what I should do is replace that keyboard at work with a better one.

(*) That’s a technical term

Well my average from taking the test 3 different times with 3 diff. tests is about 50 wpm! So, I’d say you’re pretty speedy there, on the fingers, Daniel. :) I use the touch typing method anyhow. Works well, and is quite accurate.

I don’t ordinarily leave comments, but I took the test and got 98 wpm, so obviously I have to tell somebody. :)

I too have droped from 80 wpm with 100% accuracy (needed to pass typing at my school) to 50 wpm and 72% accuracy, and I type all day at work writing specs. I blame microsoft and the auto correct function which has figured out what I was trying to type and correct it.

I’m 15 and I type 136 wpm, at least I scored that like… 5 months ago in school. It’s good I think, not too sure, but I don’t spend all day on the computer either, I’m on for about 2 hours a day.
