Thanks for the pictures, I like seeing them as much as they provide a nice compliment to “touristy” pictures. If that made any sense at all ;)

seeing lt. collins st made me come over all sentimental. in 2000 i stayed for a month in the building that backs onto collins st baptist church. you get to it from a laneway just past the victoria hotel. that was a good month…

If you go the top of Collins Street (at the Spring Street end) and take a nice leisurely stroll down as far as your legs can take it, you will find many interested plaques, etc. on many of the buildings. I discovered this when I did the walk with a couple of overseas visitors a couple of years ago. I think I discovered as much as they did about our city.

I have also tried sourcing a book about the history of Melbourne. A really in depth one. The closest I came to this was a book on all the old Union/Communist haunts around Melbourne which cost a small fortune and whilst interesting didn’t quite satisfy my hunger for Melbourne knowledge. If anyone knows of one I would certainly consider buying it.
