Aussie APEC dress-ups

Previous APEC shirts (from ABC Australia, CNNThe APEC forum is coming up in Sydney in September, and they’re only shutting down half the city to accomodate them.

But we all know what APEC really means… a big photo opp getting the leaders together in clothing that’s “traditional” in the host country — typically those colourful shirts.

So, what’ll it be for Australia? Some possibilities…

  • Drizabone coats and Akubra hats
  • Lifesaving gear (uhh, let’s have boardshorts rather than Speedos)
  • Steve Irwin-esque khaki
  • AFL or Rugby League uniforms
  • Just a loin-cloth and Aboriginal paint
  • Stubbies shorts and navy blue singlet

    great collage of photos and an amusing list!
    I can only think of more bizarre outfits, similar to Dame Edna – for example, a coat in the shape of the Harbour Bridge or Opera House.
    Whatever, it is, they will look like dorks!

    4. I am going to Sydney for a few days on 20th of Aug. Hopefully it won’t be to annoying to get around, though this is well before Apec, but from what I’ve seen they’re already putting a lot of security measures in place around the opera house etc.

    7. Zinc Cream on the schnoz and a cork fly hat resplendent with Chad Morgan false choppers for that winning smile of confidence?

    I’d love to see them all hoisting a polystyrene esky filled with ice and a dozen bottles of beer onto their shoulder as they gather for the group pics followed by a quick shuffle off to the sausage sizzle reception.
