Thu 11 May 2006 - Freeloaders

The rustling sound was back the other night, louder than before. I couldn’t spot anything. But around 6am this morning I heard the familiar noise of vermin doing calisthenics in the roof.

And I found a tiny little beetle clinging to the wall in my room.

Haven’t spotted any other insect life in quite a while, probably gone to ground for the winter.

What have all these got in common? They’re freeloading in my house. I’m sure they’re not on the title deed, and they’re certainly not contributing to the mortgage repayments. The beetle I can deal with myself, and the roof resident, if it’s a rat, may meet a packet of Ratsack before too long. If it’s a possum, of course, that may require some assistance.

If only I could institute some kind of Pacific Solution to stop them arriving in the first place. Certainly seems more deserving for rats than people.
