Wed 11 February 2004 - I know nothing
I saw something in her house. It didn’t quite make sense. I asked her about it.
“What do you think?”, she asked.
I thought about it, then made a spectacularly stupid guess. So stupid I’m way too embarrassed to reveal what it was, or even what sparked the question in the first place.
She laughed. Oh, how she laughed. She laughed loudly and long. I laughed too, when I thought about how stupid it was.
There was a more sensible explanation as it happens, but it made me think about how over the years from time to time, I’ve done things and said things that in retrospect (often mere milliseconds afterwards) have seemed incredibly stupid. Much as I’d like to think I’m a smartypants, they’ll keep happening every so often. All part of growing older and wiser I suppose.
